Did Anyone Ask?
Welcome to ‘Did Anyone Ask?’ An excuse for me to research and write about the subjects I’m fascinated and/or intrigued by. It’s an opportunity to delve deeper into the stories that interest me most.
So what interests me most?
History.
The need to heed the warnings of the cliché ‘learn the lessons of history’ is more relevant now than many realise. In a time where adding more context to historical debate is being dismissed as rewriting history. In a time when false historical equivalences are chucked around more brazenly than death sentences in Revolutionary France, historical accuracy has never been so crucial. (That last statement may be historically inaccurate).
Sport.
Unrivalled in its ability to reduce half its audience to tears of joy and the other half to tears of sadness. If you want a redemption arc, or a story of ultimate dedication, or a story of bitter rivalry, it wont take you long to find it in the annals of sporting achievements.
Nature.
The pandemic has reminded all of us just how precious time outdoors can be. A walk in the local park can be all you need to improve your mood. But nature offers more than just blooming shrubs and city slicking fox cubs. The natural world is unpredictable and awesome in equal measure and, most importantly, without it we wouldn’t have Attenborough. I rest my case.
